Charleston, SC (November 19, 2024) — The College of Charleston launches 231-GoClyde (462-5933), a RealResponse anonymous texting tool to report misconduct (e.g. alleged Title IX or hazing violations) or to seek help and resources. This platform’s two-way, anonymous communication features enable the College to gather more information during investigations while promoting a community that cares and protects its students’ well-being.
RealResponse can be utilized to report a wide range of issues or concerns, such as harassment, sexual misconduct, safety concerns, bullying, discrimination, or any other type of misconduct or policy violation you experience or witness within our College of Charleston campus community.
Students or others can use mobile devices that have texting capabilities to text 231-GoClyde (462-5933). By submitting a RealResponse text, you can communicate with the College without sharing your personal information. These two-way conversations occur through text, creating a safe space and reducing barriers to communication. This allows you to remain anonymous while staying in touch with administrative staff who can help address your concern(s).
Once a report is submitted, the texter will receive a text back from the College to acknowledge your report and ask questions if additional information or clarification is needed. A case will then be created through the appropriate office on campus.
“RealResponse is dedicated to protecting the confidentiality of reporters and the information they share. We prioritize trust as a foundation for empowering our users. By ensuring confidentiality, we encourage more individuals to come forward with their concerns, creating a more open and supportive environment,” said Alicia Caudill, Executive Vice President of Student Affairs at the College of Charleston.
The texting platform, 231-GoClyde (462-5933), will be managed by the Office of the Dean of Students in the Division of Student Affairs. The platform is not meant to be an emergency response, and the reporter receives an automatic text to explain that it is monitored during regular business hours. Additionally, the reporter is told that 9-1-1 should be called for emergency situations. Texts received during regular business hours will have a response within a few hours. If a text is received after business hours, a response can be expected relatively early during the next business day.
The RealResponse platform will be rolled out via soft launch to the Fraternity and Sorority community and Athletics this fall. A full, campus-wide launch is scheduled for early 2025.
